Narrative Voice in Film

Representation of certain types of people and/or communities in film, and media in general, has become a prominent topic for discussion of late. However, the damaging affects of misrepresentation, stereotyping and typecasting has been a core component of cinema since the very beginning. In what ways has this misrepresentation caused harm and how can film now be used as a tool to raise awareness?
