Greetings Evaluator!

Welcome to a "sandbox" version of my online Course Portal website. The official version of this site (www.Profavery.online) is password protected and currently being used by my students this semester. Therefore, I thought it would be easier to create a duplicate site, without passwords, for you to explore at your leisure without potentially interfering with my current students' work :-) That being said, I must ask that you avoid sharing any of part of this website publicly as it has only been made available only for review purposes.

Where to begin?
Simply click on the "Course" menu item at the top right of the screen and select a class of your choosing from the dropdown menu. Once on the course page, you will have access to the Course Overview + Schedule (aka Syllabus) along with any potentially other important links associated with that class. From there, simply scroll down the class page to access the "Virtual Lessons" for that course.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What are Virtual Lessons?
Each class is made up of Virtual Lessons that guide students 100% through a lesson, as in the case with online/asynchronous courses, or serve as a digital lesson outline for myself and students enrolled in in-person classes.

Occasionally, classes will include resource links to films, articles, software, media, etc. to support whatever lesson is being presented. Many courses also have Quiz / Assignment forms that students submit online for review and assessment.

For the most part, these classes are being presented as they would during a typical semester in that some courses allow students to access all the lessons on Day #1 of the semester while others "open" lessons on a per week basis depending on where the class is in the semester.

Why not just use Brightspace or Blackboard?
This is a great question and one I get a lot from faculty... The truth is, while LMS platforms like Brightspace, Blackboard, and Canvas are incredibly robust and highly functional, they are also subject to the ever-changing university contract renewal process which can be a very painful transitional process for faculty when a college decides to switch from one LMS to another... This site allows me to maintain my own content without the turbulence.

Portal Feedback and Response:
Since developing an early version of this website during the COVID-19, I have continued to tweak and modify each and every part of it, semester after semester, attempting to provide students all the resources they may need to succeed in the class. For example, a student may suggest an article or film clip that has great relevance to our discuss during one semester, which prompts me to quickly add that link to the lesson so I can pull reference it again during a future semester. Ultimately, this website has allowed me to seamlessly build upon my teaching modules semester after semester without getting bogged down with copies and lost files!

Student have also responded very positively to it given it's mobile friendly capabilities and accessibility functions. Given that much of the site has been built to support online/asynchronous learning, classtime constraints on "coverage" have really been lifted allowing us, as a class, to move at whatever pace feels right for the group without getting behind.
